Lucha Libre Contra El Cancer 2014 Live Report #montreal #wrestling #beatcancer

Saturday we had the pleasure of being invited to the 3rd annual Lucha Libre Contra El Cancer. The man of the hour, Jorge Morillas, put on an amazing show all to raise funds for cancer research.

Everyone involved gave it their all, be it the bookers, ring crew, officials, and all the wrestlers. Joey Soprano kept the night moving along and was a great choice for an MC. Overall, everyone was there for a good cause and to have fun, and it showed.

From the opening bell to the final three count, we were treated to a great show that did not have the luxury of storylines, but these guys did not need them. The overall theme of the show was the big C. The heels took full advantage of this. From Trauma Unit renaming themselves Cancer Unit to Dru Onyx claiming that everything he was doing in the ring was "for cancer".

Originally this was supposed to be the final show as it has grown to become more than one man can handle. Following the massive success and positive reception of the 2014 edition, Jorge might have a hard time saying no in 2015. During the event, a cheque was presented for $1,206.50. Since then the total has grown to over $2,200.00 with more contributions still to be counted.

Results Lucha Libre Contra El Cancer 2014

Oliver Strange & Latino Connection def. Trauma Unit

This match featured super hot heels with some excellent selling on the past of Stew Korvus. Renaming themselves Cancer Unit couldn't hurt either.

Jax Cabal def. Sharkus

Pretty good match, but ended abruptly.

Leon Saver & Pink Flash Kira def. Tom Leblond & Angie Skye

Great chemistry between the 4 wrestlers. They were definitely crowd pleasers.

Ashley Sixx def. Volkano

It was great to see Ashley Sixx in Montreal. He was well matched with Volkano.

Team Lucha Internacional def. Team Anti-Lucha

Tossup for the match of the night, definitely one with the most crowd response. Space Monkey stole the show!

Jay Phenomenon def. Judas

Good match.

Impromptu match: Hermanos Morillas def. Rocky Stone & John Atlas

Great to have an unannounced match on the card and double great to have it featuring the Hermanos Morillas.

Pat Guenette def. Dru Onyx to retain the NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship

Really great match, but that is to be expected with two veterans like Dru and Pat.

Torture Chamber Pro Wrestling Dojo Ultimate 8 Junior Heavyweight Tournament Live Report #montreal #wrestling @TortureChamberW

Last Friday, a friend and I were invited by Booglie to attend Torture Chamber Pro Wrestling's Ultimate 8 Junior Heavyweight Tournament. Let me start out by saying, we were blown away!

We arrived about 15 minutes late, not enough to miss any action, but just enough to be seated at the back of the arena. Surprisingly, it was a sold out show with 258 in attendance. I am not sure how many were there for the last event we went to, NCW Tag Team Turmoil in January, but it felt like a much larger crowd. In general, I love one-night tournaments, especially with talent that I might not be entirely familiar with. Most the names I had heard of, but I had not seen all of them wrestle before.

NCW Tag-Team Turmoil 2014 Live Report #montreal #wrestling @promotions_ncw

NCW, Northern Championship Wrestling, has been part of Montreal's rich wrestling history since 1986. Claiming to be "Le retour de la vraie lutte québécoise", NCW is a back-to-basics wrestling promotion with simple to follow storylines and focus on entertainment. Most of their shows are all ages, with children 12 years old and under getting in for free. It is a great atmosphere with a really intimate feel.

Earlier this month I attended NCW's annual Tag-Team Turmoil event with one of my best friends. Being a father of two kids under 3 years old, I have not had the chance to attend many of their events recently. I love tag-team wrestling and I figured this would be the best way to jump back in since one night tournaments are a great way to get to know unfamiliar wrestlers. In this format, you get to see two teams wrestling three times and two other teams wrestle twice. I was right because we had a blast! Also, exceptionally in this tournament, the NCW tag-team championships were on the line 3 times.
